What is Copilot?
GitHub Copilot is the AI tool to help developers in their coding.
For more details/features you may read the following GitHub documentation.
GitHub Copilot Getting Started documentation
NOTE: GitHub Copilot is sometimes mixed up with Microsoft Copilot - these are 2 different products.
What is the process to get Copilot for myself/team/Organization?
You would start by creating a SNOW ticket for the Operations team.
( NOTE: You may be prompted to sign-in with your PIV card / credentials to create the ticket)
There are two parts.
1)The cost of Copilot is billed to an Azure subscription. Thus you will need to provide a suitable one which your IC uses. If you don’t already have one, you may email STRIDES@nih.gov to ask for the same.
2)Once the above is available, the operations team will enable Copilot for your Organization. After that, the Organization owner will be able to add/manage individual users in their team/Organization.
What are the different flavors of Copilot?
GitHub provides Copilot in 3 different flavors. Individual, Enterprise and Business.
1)GitHub Copilot Individual is available to individual customers who don’t have access to Copilot through an organization or enterprise.
2)GitHub Copilot Business is available for organizations and enterprises. It gives control over policies and member access.
3)GitHub Copilot Enterprise has additional AI features over the Business version.
NOTE: Only Copilot Business and Enterprise can be chosen at our NIH GitHub Enterprise. Also, one cannot mix and have both Business and Enterprise within the same Organization – one of the two has to be chosen.
For costing and feature differences between the 3 above, please check this GitHub documentation for the same.
